Free prescriptions an option, vows Health Minister

by isleofman.com 23rd February 2010

Health Minister Eddie Teare says giving cancer patients free prescriptions isn’t out of the question – but it could be a long way off yet.

Peel MHK Tim Crookall quizzed him in the House of Keys this morning (Tuesday) about whether Mr Teare planned to follow the example of the UK and waive prescription fees for those suffering the illness.

In response, Mr Teare said although his department was strapped for cash, a review is being held into whether free prescriptions could be extended.

Currently, 85 per cent of prescriptions are free and Mr Teare told the House any changes would need Tynwald approval.
