Civil Partnership Bill on Keys order paper

Same-sex couples in the Isle of Man would be able to claim the same rights as married men and women under new legislation which will be considered by the House of Keys tomorrow.

The Civil Partnership Bill, down for formal first reading, aims to give new rights to gay couples on issues such as pensions and benefits.

Treasury Minister Allan Bell, whose department is promoting the bill, says in the past the Island has been labelled as homophobic.

He hopes the new laws will go some way to countering that image:
