Budget should have been 'greener'

by isleofman.com 20th February 2010

Friends of the Earth in the Isle of Man says it’s disappointed this year’s budget wasn’t green enough.

The organisation says Treasury Minister Allan Bell could have introduced new green taxes that would have been used to lessen the future impact of global warming.

Co-ordinator Phil Corlett says extra taxes on things like cars and air travel could have been used to pay for investment in public transport.

He says reports and research elsewhere shows that cash spent now will mean big savings in the future.
