Minister unhappy over TTxGP decision?

by isleofman.com 19th February 2010

According to a report in Motorcycle News, Environment Minister John Shimmin is disappointed TT organisers have split with TTxGP founder Azhar Hussain.

It was recently announced that TT Zero will replace TTxGP as the clean emissions race at this year's event.

Sports editor Tim Glover reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

John Shimmin is a self-confessed non TT fan.

However, he was very much behind bringing Azhar Hussain's electric race concept to the Island.

According to the article in MCN, Mr Shimmin is quoted as saying: "I share many people's surprise and disappointment that the relationship between the Isle of Man and TTxGP has been broken after only one year."

He is said to believe Azhar Hussain "has acted honestly and honourably throughout".

Mr Shimmin goes on to say he believes the whole concept will advance quicker if everyone works together rather than fighting. He is then quoted as saying: "However, the current decision makers obviously don't yet agree."

Manx Radio approached Mr Shimmin for an interview but he declined.
