Sir Miles critical of proposed government restructuring

Proposed widespread changes to the government have been criticised by one of the former figureheads of Manx politics.

Sir Miles Walker was the Island's first ever chief minister, holding the position from the start of the current, ministerial system in 1986 to 1996.

He also served on the committee which commissioned a report on the scope and structure of the Manx government, which the current chief minister says the new makeup is based upon.

Tony Brown will this week ask Tynwald to approve the overhaul, which has courted much controversy over an apparent lack of consultation and a perceived downgrading of the farming and fishing industries.

Speaking on Sunday Opinion on Manx Radio today Sir Miles Walker said much of the crucial advice of the report hadn't been heeded:
