Three Legged Race Smashes World Record!

by isleofman.com 10th February 2010

A mass three-legged race staged in Nobles Park last October by Barclays Wealth has been confirmed by Guinness has having set a new world record!

The world record attempt was the brainchild of Damian Bird, who received word last week that the existing record had been broken.

People from all over the Island gathered in October 2009 to take part in or spectate at the race, which saw 468 pairs line up to challenge the existing three-legged record - 346 pairs.

The race helped to raise over ?40,000 for the Barclays Wealth 2009 Charity of the Year, Wish Upon a Dream - a local charity which helps make the dreams of sick and terminally ill children on the Island come true.  The event was co-ordinated by Barclays Wealth staff including Kerrie McCauley, Ian Pilley and Damian, who all worked tirelessly to ensure the record was broken.

Damian said, "I would like to personally thank everybody who came out on the day to race and support us in our world record breaking three legged race.  The race was a major challenge to organise and all of the staff at Barclays Wealth were delighted to have been able to help raise so much money for our charity of the year. Receiving the call from Guinness really was the icing on the cake!"
