Farmers protest at government shakeup

by isleofman.com 10th February 2010

Farmers say they’re determined to show politicians they oppose plans to get rid of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under a government shakeup.

The department would become part of a new Department of Communities, Culture and Leisure from April if plans are approved at this month’s Tynwald sitting.

On Tuesday, farmers protested against the moves outside the House of Keys, saying they hadn’t been consulted and feel their industry would be better off in another department.

One protesting farmer, Steven Martin, says feelings are running high.
