Bid to reduce councillors by a third

by isleofman.com 9th February 2010

Plans are afoot to tighten-up the structure and improve the efficiency of Douglas Town Council, to make sure it deals with its constituents more quickly.

Council leader David Christian says the months it can sometimes take for the local authority to consider and act on someone's request is 'far too long'.

He's put a motion forward to reduce the number of councillors from 18 to 12 and also believes the number of committees could be reduced.

Mr Christian says if it's agreed upon, they would be looking to bring the changes in at the next local authority election, but admits it may not be a popular move with all.
