by isleofman.com 5th February 2010

An 87 year-old woman from Onchan died from a combination of injuries – a day after falling out of her hospital bed.

The inquest of Joan Terry, a resident at Elder Grange Nursing Home, was opened and adjourned today (Friday) so further inquiries could continue.

The inquest heard how Mrs Terry was admitted to hospital on January 11 suffering from dehydration.

On January 26, she fell out of her bed and sustained facial injuries and also needed a transfusion due to loss of blood. Her condition deteriorated and she passed away the following evening.

A post mortem showed Mrs Terry died due to multiple facial injuries, multiple rib fractures and bleeding in the pelvis area and around her left hip.

In adjourning the inquest, Coroner Alistair Montgomerie offered condolences to Mrs Terry’s family and friends.
