MHKs show more enthusiasm for health levy

The first step has been taken towards the introduction of a levy on travelling to and from the Isle of Man, to replace the outgoing Reciprocal Health Agreement with the United Kingdom.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran was given leave to introduce a bill to establish the scheme, during the weekly sitting of the House of Keys.

The idea failed to even attract a seconder when he first brought it forward at last October's sitting of Tynwald, but this time MHKs were unanimous in their backing, with all 22 members present voting in favour.

Rushen MHK and Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne told the House he regretted the issue hadn't been dealt with more effectively and hoped Mr Karran's bill could be supported in due course:
