An Onchan MHK's plans for universal health and travel insurance for the Isle of Man's population and UK visitors is a step closer today.
The House of Keys voted unanimously to give Peter Karran leave of absence to introduce a bill, setting the ball rolling on a scheme which he believes can replace the Reciprocal Health Agreement with the UK.
If the scheme comes in it will levy ?1.70 on every boat and plane journey to and from the Island, which Mr Karran says will cover people of all ages and states of health.
The issue was broadcast live on Manx Radio this morning, after MHKs voted to debate it in public, breaking with House of Keys tradition.
After over an hour of discussion all 24 MHKs voted in favour.
