Chance to Speak Up on Bus Service

by isleofman.com 1st February 2010

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is currently conducting a review of the bus network on the Isle of Man aimed at delivering improved bus services and travel options.

It is anticipated that these new proposals will provide a much improved service to both residents and visitors and can be achieved without any additional resource implications.  Two of the proposed new routes will include improved services to Ronaldsway Airport, the Sea Terminal and Nobles Hospital.

Members of the Public are invited to provide feedback on proposed changes to boost bus services which are aimed at improving access and frequency of services to local shops, businesses and residential areas.

Hon Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for the Department of Tourism and Leisure, said, "On my appointment as Minister in 2008, I confirmed my intention to continue with the review of the Island’s bus network and consider its fitness for purpose.

"A considerable amount of time has passed since the bus network was last reviewed in such detail and changing social patterns, for example, Sunday shopping, have been reflected in the bus review.  The review represents an opportunity to align bus services to the needs of our passengers.

"The views of residents of all ages, and bus users are essential for us to deliver a service that reflects their needs and concerns.  The Department of Tourism and Leisure is urging Island residents to take an active part in this important consultation."

The proposals, which are detailed in a public consultation document launched today (Monday 1st February) can be viewed at http://www.gov.im/ConsultationDetail.gov?id=134

Hard copies are also available in the Isle of Man Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, Tynwald Library, Isle of Man College Library and Douglas, Port Erin and Ramsey libraries.

Details of how to respond can be found in the document.  Replies should be submitted by 12th March 2010.

Following the consultation exercise, it is the Department’s intention to introduce the new network and timetables in Spring of this year.
