Charity benefits from efforts of hotel staff

A brand new device which could transform the lives of blind people is now available in the Isle of Man, thanks to the fund raising efforts of a Manx business.

Staff at the Hilton Hotel and Casino have raised ?6,000 for the Manx Blind Welfare Society over the past 18 months.

It has helped the society buy an Intel Reader, a device which uses digital technology to convert printed text into speech, which can then be read back to the user.

Manx Blind Welfare Society chief officer Doreen Smith says the Hilton staff have helped the charity take a big step forward (play audio file):
