Landslip hit road to re-open

by isleofman.com 1st February 2010

Bay View Road in Port St Mary will re-open this morning (Monday).

Extensive work has been carried out by the Department of Transport following the recent landslip which left an enormous void under the road.

Whilst the road will be open to traffic today, the top surface will not be laid until a later date.

As part of the works in the area, the DOT has taken the opportunity to put in place a modern design of road construction along the length of the road above Happy Valley that will reduce the need for future repairs.

The water and gas authorities have also taken the opportunity to update their infrastructure under the road.

It's also been agreed that further road improvements will be carried out to Bay View Road and along the Promenade as far as the Commissioners Offices.

During this time a traffic diversion will be in place. It's expected the work will last around three weeks.

The final phase of the work to ensure long-term stabilisation of the bank at Happy Valley will begin in around three weeks time.

The exact reason for the landslip is still being investigated.
