Call for free vote on health plans

by isleofman.com 1st February 2010

The Liberal Vannin Party has launched an on-line petition asking the Chief Minister to allow a free vote on party leader Peter Karran's private member's bill on health cover.

In the House of Keys on Tuesday, Mr Karran is asking leave to introduce a bill that would put legislation in place to allow a government department to charge a levy on travel.

The funds raised would be used to purchase blanket medical insurance for all people travelling to the UK and all visitors coming to the Island from the UK, at a cost of ?1.70 per trip.

This would be for ?100,000 of cover with no exclusions for existing or previous health conditions and age.

Liberal Vannin chairman Kate Beecroft says there's a huge amount of support for the move and it's something they've been working on for some time.

You can see the petition at the Liberal Vannin website: www.liberalvannin.org
