Health cover plan is 'feasible'

by isleofman.com 28th January 2010

Tynwald Members have been told a nominal levy on travellers to pay for healthcare in the United Kingdom could be feasible.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran's private member's bill would put a ?1.70 charge on travellers heading to the UK from the Isle of Man.

The funds would buy insurance for Manx residents if they need hospital care in the UK.

World-leading insurance brokers Jardine Lloyd Thompson, at the behest of Mr Karran, made the case for the scheme to Tynwald members.

Divisional managing director Mandy Perry explains how the scheme works.
