Improvements vow, despite unchanged rate

by isleofman.com 27th January 2010

There'll be no increase in Douglas ratepayers' bills this year, but they're being promised there'll still be improvements to the Island's capital.

That assurance comes from council leader David Christian, who has been speaking to Manx Radio following yesterday's (Wednesday) announcement rates would remain at 385 pence in the pound.

Mr Christian says projects for the forthcoming year such as the Hutchinson Square revamp, upgrading of commercial properties and new playgrounds at Ballaughton Country Park and Willaston wouldn't have been possible if they'd lowered the rate.

He says that was never an option.
