Local authority against store expansion

Ramsey Commissioners are the latest local authority to oppose Tesco's expansion plans.

They believes a significantly larger store would seriously damage the retail sector in Douglas, and other town centres in the Island.

Online comments from the Manx public lean towards backing the scheme, saying it would bring greater competition and choice, and lower prices.

But Richard Radcliffe, the lead member for finance with the northern authority, warns that may only happen in the short term, if what's happened elsewhere is anything to go by:
