Health costs too great for government to pay, says chief minister

Chief Minister Tony Brown says the government won’t be paying for Manx people’s healthcare in the UK because there’s not enough money to do so.

He says it would take at least ?3 million a year to pay hospital bills from the UK after the end of the reciprocal health agreement in April.

And with budgets this year already tight because of the end of the VAT agreement, he says it’s only fair travellers take out their own insurance to go to the UK.

Mr Brown says that’s a view that’s been backed by Tynwald:
