A former Isle of Man high school teacher with an "unhealthy sexual interest" in children has been sentenced to 12 months in prison in England.
Thirty-one year old James Barefield appeared at Southwark Crown Court earlier.
Last month Barefield, who was Head of English at QEII in Peel at the time of the offences, admitted performing sex acts online via a webcam to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
However, the "girl" was in fact a covert police officer from the Metropolitan Police.
In addition to the prison sentence he was disqualified from working with children and was placed on the sex offenders register for five years.
A sexual offences prevention order was also made, which is designed to reduce the risk Barefield poses to children.
Detective Inspector Phil Shimmin of the Isle of Man Police says he is satisfied with the sentence, adding the most important outcome of the case is Barefield will no longer be able to work with kids, in whom he clearly has an unhealthy sexual interest.
