The Isle of Man Choral Society is holding auditions in St Ninian’s Church on Saturday 7th February for a boy soprano to sing the solo in their forthcoming Faure’s Requiem.
This beautiful work needs a treble who can sustain the melodic line and project his voice over the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra.
The concert will take place on Sunday 21st March in the Villa Marina.
The Choral Society had a number of worthy applicants last year, and selected Caleb Bester to sing the treble solos in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem. Caleb gave a great performance alongside soprano soloist Kristene Sutcliffe and went to perform with distinction in Taylorian Productions' show, 'The King and I'. He will be furthering his musical education at Eton from September onwards.
The treble solo in Faure’s Requiem requires a slightly different technique and the Choral Society looks forward to auditioning the boys.
The music can be obtained from the conductor, Julian Power: call 495907 or email jpower(at)enterprise.net
The March 2010 concert is sponsored by AIB Isle of Man and Trident Trust Company (IOM) Ltd, in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer (www.breakthrough.org.uk)
The Isle of Man Choral Society has over 150 members and is an entirely self-funding arts organisation on the Island. It performs an annual concert at the Villa Marina in March each year, when it raises money for local charities. In the last five years alone, it has raised in excess of ?30,000.
