The United Kingdom Department of Health has confirmed the Reciprocal Health Agreement will end, as planned, in April.
This evening, department officials told Manx Radio the decision would stand, despite today's meeting between UK Health Secretary Andy Burnham, Chief Minister Tony Brown and Health Minister Eddie Teare.
It's a major but not unexpected blow for Island residents and means they will will soon have to pay for medical treatment in the UK, apart from accident and emergency care and scheduled referrals for specialist treatment.
The chief minister is expected to officially confirm the position in Tynwald tomorrow morning.
