Tynwald has agreed to spend more than ?3 million on a road improvement scheme for Richmond Hill.
It will include extending the southbound overtaking lane towards the top of the hill, a new access for the Home of Rest for Old Horses and a new surface water drainage system.
The scheme was originally brought forward before the Island was hit with the massive loss of income from the change in the VAT revenue sharing agreement with the United Kingdom, and there was considerable debate on whether it was the right time to spend such a large sum of money.
However, members finally voted in favour of the motion, 15-6 in the House of Keys and 8-1 in the Legislative Council.
Transport Minister David Anderson told the court the road was one of the most dangerous on the Island:
