The President of Tynwald's New Year Breakfast took place this morning (19th January) at the Empress Hotel.
An audience which included MHKs, officials of Tynwald and church leaders, joined Noel Cringle MLC in saying grace before enjoying breakfast.
Mr Cringle then introduced the guest speaker, who had been, as in previous years, personally selected by the President.
The Reverend Doctor Mark Wakelin, who is Secretary for Internal Relationships in the Methodist Church, delivered a compelling talk which focused on changing attitudes to leadership and authority; the nature of leadership itself; and the role of creativity and courage in achieving both individual and common goals.
Mixing humorous anecdotes with thought-provoking questions, Dr Wakelin's talk ranged lightly across religious, political, business and personal interests and was pertinent to all.
The New Year Breakfast was originally conceived by Mr Cringle and former Chief Constable Robin Oake in 2001, the year after Mr Cringle became President of Tynwald.
