The Department of Health and Social Security has reassured patients that there is no cause for alarm following the temporary suspension from practice by the General Medical Council (GMC) of a former contractor for the DHSS, Mr A. Poellman.
Minister for Health and Social Security, Eddie Teare MHK, has stated, "I am pleased many patients underwent surgery and were very well cared for by Mr Poellman during the Waiting List Initiative (WLI) which took place at Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital.
"We are now aware that Mr Poellman has been temporarily suspended from practice by the Interim Orders Panel of the GMC. This is a precautionary measure and there has been no finding against Mr Poellman.
"I wish to reassure the patients treated by Mr Poellman that their treatment has been reviewed by the GMC, who have confirmed that Mr Poellman's treatment was 'appropriate with acceptable outcomes'.
"We are extremely pleased with the results of the WLI and the work of Mr Poellman; indeed I have received many complementary remarks from satisfied patients.
"It would be wrong for me to comment any further until the GMC have concluded their enquiries."
