Graffiti Man Charged with Criminal Damage

by isleofman.com 18th January 2010

Police are appealing to the public for further information following a spate of graffiti across the Island.

In the early hours of Sunday 17th January, numerous instances of criminal damage occurred around the Island.  The name of a country and a year were sprayed onto stone walls in prominent areas of some of the Island's parishes.

A 22 year old man from Port St Mary was arrested after he was found by a police officer in the area where one of these instances occurred.  He was subsequently charged with four offences of criminal damage in the south of the Island and he will appear in Court this morning.

Acting Detective Sergeant Pailor said, "Officers are continuing to investigate other instances of graffiti which occurred around the Island."

Anyone who has information which they believe may assist the enquiry is urged to contact The Douglas Police Headquarters on 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

It is not yet known whether these incidents are linked to those reported over the Christmas period, when a number of Manx Nationalist slogans were sprayed on the roads around Peel and St Johns.
