Title race going to the wire

by isleofman.com 16th January 2010

It’s going right to the wire in the men’s hockey Premier Division but reigning champions Bacchas A are all but out of the race.

In the match of the day Valkyrs A saw off the reigning champions 2-0, thanks to goals from Ollie Webster and Neil Jacobs.

However, despite winning the big match, Valkyrs have slipped to second on goal difference after Vikings A thrashed Castletown 12-1.

A SIX goal haul from Conor Byrne, doubles from Juan Corlett and Gerry Quinn, plus one each from Mark Dougherty and Adam Fretwell, fired them to the summit.

Paul Kelly provided Town’s only bright spot.

Elsewhere, a Jon Norrington hat-trick lifted Valkyrs B off the bottom.

His treble saw off Harlequins 3-2 and the Quins are now at the foot of the table.

A late Ken Carney goal ensured Vikings B drew with Bacchas B in an exciting six goal contest.

David Whiting, Sean Corlett and Ally Slack found the net for Bacchas with John Bateson, Jon Emery and Carney scoring for Vikings.

In the women’s Premier Division, runaway champions Vikings A were again a class apart.

They thrashed Castletown A 6-0, courtesy of a Kim Carney hat-trick, a Dani Coombes double and a goal from Zoe Carney.

Second placed Valkyrs A saw off Bacchas A 4-0 – Andrea Kneen (two). Amy Speed and Leanne Prescott the scorers.
