The Rotary Club has joined forces with the Isle of Man Red Cross to offer a free lifesaving course.
Four free 'Heart Start' courses are being held at the Red Cross headquarters in February, offering training in resuscitation.
This is the eighteenth year that the Douglas Rotary Club has sponsored 'Heart Start'.
The training is in the hands of qualified Red Cross personnel who are able to take the attendees through the techniques in a friendly and relaxed manner.
The team of instructors will usually give additional training in First Aid techniques, including how to deal with such problems as bleeding, burns and choking.
Not only does the course involve a talk but also actual mouth to mouth resuscitation practice on a specially designed dummy. Strict hygiene is maintained and there is disinfection after each use.
Loss of consciousness is not uncommon and the presence of someone with even a minimum of training could make the difference between life and death and at the least may prevent brain damage occurring through lack of oxygen.
Individuals are warmly welcomed and companies are invited to send their staff. In previous years, people from all walks of life have attended and staff from a wide range of businesses and professions.
Should firms or individuals attending wish to make voluntary donations to the Red Cross, they would of course be gratefully received. The Rotary Club itself also makes a donation.
In order to maintain a high quality of instruction and a relaxed atmosphere, numbers will be limited, so please book early to secure a place.
Two courses take place on 11th February at 10am and 2pm, then a further two are scheduled for 25th February, also at 10am and 2pm.
The new Red Cross Headquarters are situated at the Isle of Man Business Park, Braddan, where is plenty of parking.
The courses last for about two hours. Tea and biscuits will be provided free of charge.
