Century old sewer pipes to be replaced

by isleofman.com 14th January 2010

After 100 years, sewer pipes under Douglas harbour need to be replaced.

Three one-foot Victorian cast-iron sewer pipes run under the harbour carrying waste from Douglas Head and the area of South Quay.

But they’re now having problems because of blockages and the fact they’re starting to wear out, leading the Department of Transport to ask companies to tender to replace them.

Peter Winstanley is the director of drainage.
