Asbestos offences will be treated 'seriously'

by isleofman.com 14th January 2010

Following the conviction of two Manx tradesmen for handling asbestos without a licence, the Health and Safety Inspectorate have said they will treat all cases very seriously.

Mark Pemberton and Francis 'Frankie' Howard, who trade as Isle of Man Roofing Services' were found to have damaged asbestos cladding on a property two years ago.

An investigation by Health and Safety led to the court appearance earlier this week in which Pemberton and Howard were fined ?3,000 and ?2,000 respectively and ordered to pay costs.

Senior Inspector Ron Ellison says older houses are particularly likely to contain the material.
