Health agreement hope quashed in Commons

by isleofman.com 13th January 2010

There’s been a further warning that a change of heart in ending the reciprocal health agreement is highly unlikely.

In the House of Commons yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), Tory MP Sir Nicholas Winterton was told while a meeting between Island politicians and the UK Department of Health was planned for next Tuesday (January 19), the department was not minded to change the decision.

UK Health Minister Andy Burnham has agreed to meet a delegation from the Isle of Man which will be led by Chief Minister Tony Brown and Health Minister Eddie Teare.

As it stands, from April Manx residents will have to pay for medical treatment in the UK, other than accident and emergency care and scheduled referrals to the UK for specialist treatment.
