Vital health meeting next week

by isleofman.com 12th January 2010

A meeting between Island politicians and the UK Department of Health over the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement will take place a week today, it’s been confirmed.

Chief Minister Tony Brown and Health Minister Eddie Teare will meet the UK Secretary of State for Health Andy Burnham on January 19.

Mr Brown says they will leave Mr Burnham ‘in no doubt’ as to the concerns of the government and Isle of Man residents over the UK government’s decision to terminate the agreement.

As it stands, from April Manx residents will have to pay for medical treatment in the UK, other than accident and emergency care.

The Chief Minister stressed the Manx Government has always made its opposition to the decision known, despite a continued stance from UK officials.

He’ll make a statement in Tynwald next week after he and Eddie Teare have returned from London.
