Ballakermeen Wins First Parent Awards

by isleofman.com 12th January 2010

Ballakermeen High School has become the first school on the Island to earn the Leading Parent Partnership Award.

The Award is being given in recognition of the school's commitment to working with parents to promote learning both in school and the wider community.

Ballakermeen staff and pupils were able to demonstrate that the school is a welcoming and friendly place for parents and visitors; that it keeps parents fully informed about their children’s work in school, their attendance and academic progress; and that it is determined to expand the range of learning and enrichment opportunities for both students and parents.

Ballakermeen parents can look forward to the opportunity, for example, to take up the chance to expand their ICT skills in Parent Classes to be offered by members of the teaching staff in the Spring Term.

The initiative was led by Deputy Headteacher Annette Baker and Debbie Evans, School Leadership team member, who led the initiative, who worked with number of parents to secure the award.

The award will be presented to the school's Head Teacher, Adrienne Burnett, by Minister of Education Anne Craine MHK, on Wednesday 27th January.
