Isle of Man Crimestoppers have announced an increase in the number of actionable calls made in recent months.
Ninety-five calls were recorded from April 1st to 30th November 2009, which is an increase of 20% on the corresponding period in 2008.
The quality of information received has also been high resulting in at least eight detentions or arrests.
Stuart McCudden, Chair of Isle of Man Crimestoppers said, "We are delighted with these latest results. Despite the overall level of crime continuing to fall, we remain keen that the Island operates a zero tolerance in respect of criminal activity.
"The high volume of calls indicates more people are aware that they can report details of crimes easily and that they value the anonymous aspect of reporting offered by Crimestoppers."
Crimestoppers is dedicated to fighting crime on the Island. Recently, the charity launched a 'Most Wanted' feature on their website whereby the public are asked to provide information regarding criminal culprits. There are currently six cases featured on the site and Crimestoppers are keen for as many people as possible to log on.
As cold winters can be a time for increased criminal activity, Crimestoppers urges the public to take sensible precautions regarding their property, to be vigilant regarding suspicious activity and to report details of individuals who may be responsible for committing crime.
Any member of the public who does not wish to communicate information directly to the police can contact the charity anonymously.
Callers to Crimestoppers are never asked to identify themselves, but they are asked to provide relevant information regarding criminal activity and the perpetrators thereof.
Calls can be made 24 hours per day to (0800) 555111.
