Douglas has taken a step forward in its bid to win a slice of the government's ?8 million regeneration fund.
The scheme to revitalise the capital is to be based on five key strategies, ranging from town centre layout, to installing eye-catching pieces of public art.
The town and village regeneration fund has been set up to improve the quality of life for communites across the Island and stimulate new business.
The bid is being driven by a local regeneration committee - supported by Douglas Development Partnership and Douglas Corporation and chaired by DTI Minister and South Douglas MHK David Cretney.
The design strategy will include layout, paving and street furniture.
Lighting will focus on imaginative schemes to illuminate public buildings, facades and streets.
The public art strategy will offer local artists the opportunity to get involved in the regeneration process.
Creating more green areas and offering different forms of public information in the capital are the other elements.
Expert consultants will be asked to advise on all five strategies before the final project is put forward.
Chris Pycroft from Douglas Development Partnership hopes the end result will make the Douglas town centre experience comparable with other leading towns in the British Isles.
