School closures not taken lightly

by isleofman.com 9th January 2010

The Education Minister says the decision to close all the Island's schools for two days this week was based on top level advice from a range of agencies.

The closures due to the snow caused problems for parents, who had to stay off work at short notice.

In the UK, a school's headteacher and chair of governers decide on whether or not to open.

In the Isle of Man, that decision is made by the Minister, after taking advice from the Met Office, the Department of Transport, police and the bus company.

Anne Craine says it's been a difficult call, as some areas were worse-affected by the snow than others.
