Gas supplies not affected by cold weather

There is no immediate threat of a shortage of natural gas in the Isle of Man, according to a Manx supplier.

The higher than normal demand for all forms of fuel, due to the usually cold weather, has led to claims stored supplies in the United Kingdom will run out in eight days.

However, the Manx Electricity Authority, which operates the pipeline feeding the Island, says it isn't aware of any shortages and has been supplying more gas than ever before.

MEA managing director Ashton Lewis says the stocks are used only for 'topping up', during periods of peak demand:
