Closing date for licensing submissions

The sea angling community has until close of business today to make its views known on proposals to introduce a licensing scheme.

The idea is included in a draft Fisheries Bill, split between marine and river fisheries, and designed to streamline existing legislation.

The Department of Fisheries has made it clear the move towards a licensing system is based on conservation concerns and is not financially motivated.

But reaction has not been entirely positive.

Chairman of the Isle of Man Angling Federation Chris Culshaw is in favour of licences for some aspects of sea fishing:
