Should 'snow days' be annual leave?

The unusual weather conditions earlier this week caused chaos for many Manx workers.

Large numbers of commuters were unable to reach their places of work and others were forced to stay at home to look after children whose schools were closed.

The absences have caused concern for employers and employees in the public and private sectors, particularly the thorny question of whether absent workers should be paid, or have to take the time off as annual leave.

Industrial Relations Officer Ian Cochrane says the decision will vary from one employer to another:
