Crunch time for sports venue

It's a crucial day for the refurbishment of the Bowl.

A special meeting of Douglas Borough Council takes place this afternoon, at which the ?3.5 million scheme will be discussed.

Last month, the local authority decided against covering half the cost, saying it couldn't justify the expenditure to ratepayers in the present economic climate.

However, councillors have been asked to reconsider, following a presentation by govenrment, before Christmas.

Treasury Minister Allan Bell says he knows many people have concerns about unnecessary expenditure at present:
