Weekend sport in question

Decisions about this weekend's Manx sporting programme are likely to be made today (Friday).

All the Island's artificial Hockey pitches are frozen and the Manx Hockey Association is promising an early verdict on tomorrow's Men's and Ladies' League matches.

In Rugby, the South Lancashire and Cheshire Division Two game between Douglas and Ashton on Mersey at Port-e-Chee was called off yesterday, with the ground under snow and ice.

Vagabonds and Ramsey are supposed to be playing off-island, but the pitches at Dukinfield and Holmes Chapel are unplayable.

The Rugby Football Union is trying to switch both games to Southport and a decision about whether that is possible will be made later today.

In football, ten Manx FA Cup preliminary round ties are in the balance due to the big freeze.

Manx Radio's football correspondent Tony Mepham says the Isle of Man Football Association is aware there could be major problems:
