Roadwatch: Motorists Urged to Think Ahead

by isleofman.com 7th January 2010

The Department of Transport is reminding motorists to allow extra time for their journey this evening after heavy traffic caused major delays on many of the Island’s roads this morning.

A combination of factors, including the schools' reopening, the Mountain Road closure and motorists sticking to the main roads, meant that there were large tailbacks on many roads, specifically in the Onchan and Laxey area and Ballacraine to Glen Vine.

The temporary traffic signals at Baldrine which have also caused some delays this morning are due to be removed before this evening’s rush hour.

"Conditions on the Island’s roads are improving but as the temperature drops this evening roads that are currently clear may become iced so motorists are reminded to take extra care, allow extra time for their journey and stick to the main roads that have been treated.

"Pedestrians are also asked to take extra care on footpaths and pavements as conditions underfoot remain treacherous in some places.

"The Department would also like to remind drivers not to drive on closed roads.  This not only risks their own safety but also the safety of emergency services and road workers who have to attend the resulting accidents."
