The Department of Transport is advising motorists that work on highway improvements at the junction between Glen Vine Road, and Peel Road, Glen Vine will commence on Monday 11th January.
The work is expected to take five weeks and a section of Glen Vine Road from its junction with Peel Road to its junction with Glen Vine Drive will be closed for the duration.
Glen Vine Road is a rural road with a narrow and tight junction onto Peel Road. Residential development in the area in recent years has led to a significant increase in traffic and it has become increasingly difficult for vehicles to turn into Glen Vine Road from Peel Road particularly if there is a vehicle at the stop line waiting to exit the junction.
The visibility at the junction is below the acceptable standard for a major/minor junction.
The Department will be widening the junction by building a concrete culvert over the adjacent stream, a small section of the garden at the roadside cottage will be used to improve the forward visibility. Part of the boundary wall and sod hedge at the cottage will be removed and the bushes will be cut back.
Residents of Glen Vine Road are advised to use Ballagarey Road for access while the work is taking place.
The Department apologises for any inconvenience caused during these works and would like to extend its thanks to the landowners for their assistance with this project.
