DoT seeking contractor for tricky sewage job

by isleofman.com 6th January 2010

Century-old sewage pipes underneath Douglas Bay are to be replaced, following an unsuccessful attempt to fix them.

The pipes link the South Quay and Douglas Head catchment area to that of North Quay, and the work will require specialist engineering techniques.

An attempt by the Department of Transport to utilise no-drill lining techniques, to extend the life of the sewers, didn't work.

Political member with responsibility for drainage David Quirk, MHK, says the department is looking to engage a suitable civil engineering contractor.

The 'best-value design' will take into account construction methods and the challenges of working within Douglas Harbour.
