Many walk to work as snow grips Island

by isleofman.com 5th January 2010

Heavy snow and ice have brought chaos to the Isle of Man's roads and services today.

Large numbers of people took the decision to walk to work, with driving conditions treacherous and buses suspended.

Manx Radio's Tim Glover left his car at home, and reported from an unusually quiet Douglas promenade into the 9am news (play audio file):

Cars have been abandoned in many parts of the Island, and police are asking motorists to try and leave them at the side of the roads, so gritters and emergency vehicles can get past.
