Xmas drink-drive arrests up

by isleofman.com 4th January 2010

Well over 800 motorists were stopped by police in the Christmas and New Year period.

Of those, 17 were arrested and eight charged with offences relating to drink-driving, which is marginally up on the 2008 to 2009 campaign.

Four motorists were bailed, pending possible action, and another three were told no action will be taken against them.

A total of 866 cars were stopped and 141 roadside breath tests carried out, during a campaign which is being described as 'highly effective' by police.

In addition to those charged, 230 'minor' motoring offences were identified, with the majority of the drivers advised to repair defective lights.

Over 100 collisions were recorded during the period but there were no serious incidents resulting from drink-driving.
