'Lost her rag' after police were called

by isleofman.com 4th January 2010

A 41-year-old woman who used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in the presence of a police officer has been granted a conditional discharge by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.

Leslie Jayne Jones, of Summerhill Road in Onchan, admitted the offence.

The court heard police were called to a house in Woodbourne Road, Douglas at 10pm on Christmas Eve, and saw a man and a woman arguing in the front garden.

Officers spoke to the woman occupant of the house, which caused the defendant to shout and swear at her. Jones was warned about her language, but then lashed out at the woman.

Her advocate said the incident was at the lower end of the scale. The property was occupied by friends of the defendant and she had been there for a meal. She was waiting outside for a taxi when police arrived after her friend had called them. She then 'lost her rag'.

Mr Moyle told Jones he strongly suspected drink was the cause of the incident.
