Misbehaviour comparable with last year

by isleofman.com 1st January 2010

Police were called to 93 incidents on New Year's Eve, all involving people who were the worse for drink.

They say the figure is comparable to twelve months ago, when there were 86 call-outs.

Nine people were arrested, one down on last year, but no one was arrested or charged with drink driving offences.

The latter figure is also an improvement on 2008/2009, when one motorist was charged.

Detective Inspector Iain MacMillan says no serious offences were reported this time, although there seems to be a small minority of people who cannot go out and enjoy themselves without drinking too much, then behaving in such a way that they finish their night in custody.

However, the constabulary is generally pleased that revelllers appeared to take heed of the Christmas campaign to clamp down on drinking and driving.
