Island lashed by icy winds

Strong winds and a blast of icy weather have gripped the Island.

There has been traffic disruption in Douglas, after high seas lashed the promenade, and the gusts ripped tiles from the roof of a building in Peveril Square.

Part of the promenade was closed to vehicles and pedestrians at lunchtime today (Wednesday).

The Sloc Road was closed between Ballakilpheric and the Round Table, due to ice and snow.

Although the mountain road was open, four other routes on high ground remained closed.

Winds this afternoon were predicted to reach 60 miles per hour.

Tim Glover reported live from the Sea Terminal in Douglas on Mandate at One.
