A competition which encourages Manx school children to become more aware of the problems faced by people in different countries has got off to a good start.
The One World Centre's Charity Challenge, supported by the H&S Davidson Trust, has attracted entries from the five local high schools, the Isle of Man College and King William's College.
Each team chooses a charity supported by the Manx Government's Overseas Aid Budget, researches the work it does, then makes a presentation to a panel of judges.
The charities will then receive grants from the trust, based on the quality of the presentations, from a pool of ?11,500.
The challenge helps young people connect with those in the developing world and, in some cases, has led to students volunteering to work for their chosen charity overseas.
There will be a series of inter-school presentations early in 2010, before the finals at the Manx Museum in March.
